(TC59) Internal and External Root Resorption Management: A Case Report

Both internal and external root resorptions can be benign and slow growing or aggressive and fast growing, resulting in tooth perforation, attachment loss, and consequent tooth loss secondary to endodontic and/or periodontic infections. Internal resorption is seen on the wall of the root canal  and on external or cervical resorption on  the surface of the root. These conditions may be transient or progressive. A understanding of prognostic factors and great patient communication are the most important criteria when deciding to save or remove a tooth with extensive internal and/or external root resorption. The purpose of this study was to present a  succsessful case of a 27-year-old, healthy male with a chief complain of tooth discoloration. Upon clinical and radiographic evaluation, it was observed resorption lesions in the cervical areas of the maxillary right central incisor. The patient reported trauma in the mentioned tooth in approximately 10 years ago with history of intrusion. Vitality was negative and grade I mobility was present. The treatment plan involved a root canal treatment as well as a surgical approach. Regular recall is important to check the status of healing and for the overall prognosis of the tooth.
