Objectives: It is the role of the Endodontist to explain procedures & this task includes clarifying information patients encounter on the internet. However, the validity of information found online is variable. It is necessary to explore the patterns in which patients seek information on endodontic procedures. The aims of this study were to determine via a survey: 1) the prevalence of patients who utilize Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) to educate themselves on endodontic procedures; and 2) if GAl is not utilized, what other resources (digital or other) do patients utilize?
Methods: This study utilized a multiple-choice question and short answer online survey. The survey was administered to active patients of The NSU CDM PG Endodontics Department. All data received was analyzed by a statistician. A preliminary analysis was conducted on 53 responses. A chi-squared & Wilcoxon test was run.
Results: The expected results were that there would be statistically significant differences based on age group/ population. The results revealed that there is a statistically significant difference in patient age in reference to: receiving root canal treatment for the first time (p= 0.035) and whether an additional online resource (outside of AI) was used prior to their appointment (p=0.001).
Conclusion: The results lead us to believe that age is one of the greatest determinants in utilization of AI for patient education prior to root canal treatment.
