Managing trauma situations is undoubtedly one of the most essential services that dental professionals can provide their patients. The available Trauma Guidelines are a valuable resource to effectively and predictably determine which type of trauma the patient’s dentition has experienced, what initial stabilization is recommended, and what follow up protocols and treatment may be indicated. As more practitioners gain access to CBCT imaging, it is important to understand which imaging modalities are indicated for which situations, what the radiographic signs of trauma are, and what the limitations of different imaging modalities are. This lecture will assist in obtaining a competent grasp of these principles to allow for predictable preservation of teeth while also following the basic principles of ALARA.
