Dr. Hakan Karaaslan is an NIH supported clinician-scientist, working at the ADA Forsyth Institute as a postdoctoral fellow. He earned his DDS degree in 2013 from Hacettepe University in Turkey. Following several years in private practice, he pursued specialized training in endodontics at the same institute, completing it in 2019. For his thesis project, he investigated the impact of internal bleaching agents on hard tissues after root canal treatment. Following his residency, Dr. Karaaslan furthered his academic journey by joining Forsyth Institute on an NIH R90 Postdoctoral Fellowship. Here, he pursued his passion for studying dental hard tissue biology, mainly focusing on dental enamel and exploring the missing link between dental enamel and dental pulp. Recently he received an NIH K08 Career Development award to continue his research with an ultimate goal to translate the basic science findings into clinical applications.
